Showbread Concert

Bryan R. | June 23, 2006

Last Friday, the 16th, I went to The Mad Hatter and saw this show--The lineup that night were the bands Showbread, The Fall Of Troy, He Is Legend, and The Classic Case.

I mainly went to see Showbread, who I missed last summer (along with Blindside!!)!! :'( ... Anyway, Showbread rocked!.. It's was so rad! Yea, it wasn't until good 'ol Showbread stormed the stage that the mosh pits sprung up through nearly 70% of the floor.

Erm.. Speaking of moshing.. This was my first time I've ever seen, never the less been in, a true mosh pit. I've been to very few shows/concerts in my time, and all I've ever seen even remotly similar to moshing are congo lines and the gentler GrindCore moshing.

So I'm just standing there in about the middle of the crowd on the left side of the stage zoned out on the music..and..well..I'm not quite sure how it happend.. I remember being jarred, snapping me out of concentration on the stage, shoved around a little bit and blurting out 'Ah, oh damn!?'.. Didn't know what to do heh :-D.. Also didn't realize that for the past few seconds I was being funneled out of the pit--Quite Agressively mind you.. Next I recall being 'ejected' from the crust of the pit, stumbling backwards and slamming onto the ground--taking some girl down with me heh ;) ... That was probably quickest time I've sprang back onto my feet in my life lol.. I glance over at the swelling pit (yes, it was getting ever closer to me still) and see the tiny little path I was siphoned out closed off like a zipper.--And interesting sight to see. 'Ah crud' I murmer to myself, remembering there was still someone behind me on the ground (thanks to me heh)... Whipping myself around I just sorta yank (chivalry, what's that? 8) ) this chick stumbling back onto her feet completly up--She looked like around like a freshman or sophomore. I just went like, "Ehh.. Sorry 'bout that" Giggling she goes, "Ah, it's cool... Heh, I'm not getting in there" "Yea, pretty crazy" I finish off.. So, yea, I decided to momentarily flirt.. I should really do that more :)

A little later on, after observing and preparing myself, I went and (voluntarily :D) joined in on two mosh pits that night.. It's so much fun once you get a feel for it!.. It's chaotic, hot, and VERY much energy draining. :P.. You don't really get hurt, sometimes you get jabbed in the face or ribs and that stings for a sec.. But other than that you walk away with maybe a sore side and a bruise or two.

Uh.. what else?... I met up there with Louis and Austin--Fun times...

Loved all the bands except The Classic Case.. didn't really care for them.

Eh... Also, I must say that it was REALLY nice to be around a sesspool of my own 'kind' for once.--The other Emo Kids, Scenesters and Jesus Freaks there that night are what I'm refering to... We don't like sports and exercise (and could care less about either or our health), were're short, skinny and pale... Were're different, misunderstood, hated and loved by many, we don't concern ourselves with gossip & bickering... Were're intoverted and anti-scocial for the most part (and prefer it that way).. Were're into writing poetry & in journals, as well as being emotionally exposed, and yerning to be closer to God.. Were're often into dorky sci-fi stuff and making costumes, RPGs and contemplating alternative government.. all that stuff.. And, most importantly, in the end we all really could care less about what anyone else thinks of us (nor will we change for anyone or bust our backs to adhere to society) ...Yet were're the nicest and most caring people if you just give us a chance and don't judge, accuse, freak out around or stereotype us...

That describes me--and literally 95% of the teens (i don't think there was anyone there over the age of 17) at the show that night.. I made small talk with so many people.. And I kid you not, I don't think I've ever felt so relaxed and like I fit in and belonged in a big group (or any group for that matter :( ) than I did that night.. Topics with people ranged from Final Fantasy VII, to Pacifistic Anarchism, to Roper, and even praise for the everlasting and healing love of God.

Erm... yea.. guess that's all..

Thank you. It's been wonderful talking to all of you. Godspeed.

(Oh, and here are two really cruddy pics I attempted to take of Showbread...)
